Text Compare
Compare two versions of a draft line by line. Additions, removals, and unchanged lines are marked, and a similarity score summarizes how much of the line sequence still matches.
This draft stays in the tab. Opening a file reads it here and does not upload it.
100% of the lines match
How to use it
- Paste the older draft on the left and the newer draft on the right, or open each as a text file. Neither file is uploaded.
- Read the marked lines. Removed lines come from the left. Added lines come from the right.
- Use the similarity score as a quick check, then read the lines that changed.
Example
Intro paragraph. Old example. Closing note.
Intro paragraph. New example with a figure. Closing note.
The first and last lines match. The middle line is a removal plus an addition, not a character-level edit.
Questions
Is this a character diff?
No. It compares whole lines. A one-word edit inside a long line shows up as that line being removed and a new line being added.
How is similarity calculated?
It is twice the number of matching lines in the longest common subsequence, divided by the total number of lines on both sides. Two empty drafts score 100%.
Is there a length limit?
Each side can be up to 100,000 characters and 500 lines. Longer comparisons are refused so the page stays responsive.
