Cleanup

Text Cleaner

Pages, PDFs, and email often hide extra characters in text that looks ordinary. Text Cleaner normalizes Unicode, strips zero-width characters and control codes, straightens quotes, and tidies spaces. Turn off any step you do not want.

This draft stays in the tab. Opening a file reads it here and does not upload it.

Cleaning steps

Cleaned text

0 characters removed.

How to use it

  1. Paste the text that looks fine but behaves oddly in a form, or open it as a file. The file is not uploaded.
  2. Leave the default steps on, or turn off quote straightening if you want curly quotes.
  3. Copy the cleaned text. The editor still holds the original.

Example

Hello world!!

“Quoted” text — really…

The zero-width space disappears, the double exclamation becomes one, curly quotes become straight quotes, and the extra blank lines collapse.

Questions

What is a zero-width character?

It is a character that takes no visible space, such as a zero-width space or a byte-order mark. It can still break a search or a form. This tool removes those characters when that step is on.

Will this translate the text?

No. It does not paraphrase, and it does not send the text to a server.

Why offer switches for each step?

Straight quotes are useful in code and often wrong for published prose. Removing every empty line helps a messy paste and hurts poetry. Turn a step off, or turn on Remove empty lines, to match the draft.
